Our Navigator program helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who are struggling with school find flexible approaches to learning. We help young people re-engage with their education to achieve their goals.
Who is this program for?
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12 to 17 years.
- Struggling to attend school regularly (attendance of 30% or less).
- Living in one of our service areas: North, South and East (see contact details below).
How it works
- We start with an initial assessment to make sure the program properly fits the young person’s needs.
- Next, we learn what the young person’s goals and interests are, along with the challenges that they may be facing.
- From this we create a flexible plan of approach that helps them better engage with an education.
- Some of the flexible ways we can help include:
- a modified timetable
- changing school
- doing a TAFE course
- starting an apprenticeship.
- Getting an education opens more opportunities. The Navigator program creates pathways and opportunities that are unique to every person’s needs.
