Balert Gerrbik KFFE (Koorie Families as First Educators) is a program that helps families through the challenges of parenting or caring. Koorie educators give support to families or carers with Aboriginal children (aged 0 - 5), including pregnant mums and partners. 

Who's this program for?

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents or carers with children aged 0 – 5 and pregnant people and partners  
• Live in the Latrobe Valley or the Northern Melbourne metro area 

Get started

• The program goes for 10 weeks with the option of running a little longer or shorter, depending on your needs.  
• You can get in touch with us directly to join the program, or another organisation can refer you to us. (email: kffeprogram@vacca.org)
• We support you to build a positive environment at home that is safe, loving and predictable for young people. This includes the skills to:  
  • set boundaries in a calm way that is understandable to young people 
  • manage challenging behaviour in a way that supports the child’s wellbeing 
  • create routines that are easy for everyone to follow 
  • handle the challenges of being a parent/carer in a calm, relaxed manner 
  • look after your own wellbeing.
• Our connections with local community groups and organisations allows us to introduce you to other culturally safe programs and services. Through these programs and services, young people can practice their culture and grow strong in their Aboriginal identity.  
• Examples of the different types of services we can link you and your child with include:  
  • cultural groups and activities   
  • local health services (maternal and child specific)  
  • culturally safe daycare and kinder   
  • language development support.
