Today marks the 12th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations by the Australian Government.
The apology was a significant moment in our shared history. It was recognition of the terrible injustice inflicted on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at the hands of the government, and the damage and destruction that was caused. For many Stolen Generations survivors, the apology was a step towards healing.
On this day, we come together to reflect, grieve and acknowledge the harm done to Stolen Generations – and honour the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities.

Link-Up Victoria supports the Stolen Generations to find and be reunited with their family. They assist the Stolen Generations to confidently reclaim their identity, to embrace their heritage, to return back into the caring arms of their people, and to proudly walk on their traditional Country – sometimes for the very first time.
"This is a profoundly healing experience for many of the Stolen Generations mob we work with. We've reunited people with family who have waited for years for them to come back home."
Link-Up Victoria also advocates for justice and compensation for Stolen Generations survivors, which is still outstanding in Victoria.
"We have been lobbying and Stolen Generations have been calling out for compensation for years. Until the government commits to a compensation scheme, it will always be a festering sore."
For the Stolen Generations, it still isn't over. We are still bringing our mob back home. In Victoria, the fight for justice and reparations is ongoing. There is still a lot of healing to do.
"Despite attempts to assimilate us out of existence, we went through all of that and we came out and we survived."
