Celebrating Our Elders - NAIDOC 2023

The 2023 NAIDOC theme, 'For Our Elders', celebrates those in community we look to for their cultural knowledge and depth of wisdom.

Age alone doesn't determine if someone is recognised as an Elder, a true Elder is someone looked up to by community. Their cultural knowledge and wisdom means that they are sought out as keepers of lore and tradition; an Elder is a mentor, a lifelong teacher and an endless well of advice.

This year, NAIDOC Week is a time to demonstrate the respect we hold for our Elders, both those that came before and left footprints for us to follow and those that we are lucky enough to have walking beside us and sharing their knowledge.

Watch the video playlist below to hear voices from VACCA and community sharing how Elders have shaped their lives and the community around them.
