On January 26, VACCA Life Member, Aunty Fay Carter was appointed a Medal of the Order of Australia, an OAM.

Aunty Fay is a respected Elder of the Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung clans. For over 40 years she has worked to help strengthen families, reform welfare programs and set the standard for Aboriginal aged care services.

Aunty Fay mentioned in her interview with the Bendigo Advertiser that January 26 isn't a day she celebrates, she actually goes into mourning. She went on to say that it is part of their vision that "future generations will come to know the truth of our shared history... and when that time arises, we would all be better placed to realise a collective Australian identity to be shared and owned by all".
