The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is proud to be the recipient of the Gold award in the category of Large Employer of the Year at the Australian Training Awards 2024, announced on 6 December in Canberra.
The Australian Training Awards are the pre-eminent national awards showcasing best practice in vocational education and training across Australia.
The awards recognise and celebrate excellence, and VACCA’s win is testament to our ongoing commitment to supporting workforce development and capacity building for our staff of over 1,200 people across Victoria.
Following VACCA’s win in the Victorian Training Awards, VACCA were shortlisted from all States and Territories for the national award, alongside WesTrac (Western Australia) and Riviera Australia (Queensland).
“We are so thrilled to be awarded the Gold prize in the Large Employer of the Year category,” said VACCA CEO Muriel Bamblett. “Winning gold shows that there are no limits to workforce development and there are many pathways and partnerships needed to develop a sustainable and thriving workforce.”
“This award is testament to over ten years of investment to design and listen to the voices of our staff in how best to support them in their learning journey,” Ms Bamblett continued.
“I’m so proud of the work VACCA does to strengthen Aboriginal leadership within VACCA.”
VACCA’s professional development opportunities include the Diploma of Community Services (at Swinburne University); the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (Kangan Institute); and the Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy: First Nations (The Bouverie Centre and La Trobe University). Over 75 per cent of VACCA staff completing these qualifications are Aboriginal.

ABOUT VACCA - www.vacca.org
The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is Victoria’s Peak Voice for Aboriginal children. We are the leading provider of Aboriginal child and family services, and the largest provider of services for Aboriginal family violence and homelessness. We have been supporting children, young people, and families in the community for over 47 years as an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO).
Through our vision of self-determination – Live, Experience, and Be – we exist to support culturally strong, safe, and thriving Aboriginal communities. We deliver over 80 programs across Victoria including child and family services, family violence, support for stolen generations, child protection, cultural strengthening programs, mental health, financial services, justice and redress support, early years, and homelessness services.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which we work. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and to their children and young people who are the future elders and caretakers of this great land.
