At VACCA, we recognise that allies – our non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friends and supporters – are an essential part of us being able to achieve our vision and purpose. We welcome and support employees from different cultures, ethnicities, and other Indigenous groups.
-
We offer comprehensive induction, training and professional development, including mandatory Cultural Awareness Training for all non-Aboriginal staff.
We don’t expect you to know everything. But we expect you have a commitment to our vision and purpose, an awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in Australia today. Visit the VACCA website to learn more about our work. Deadly Story is a valuable resource to increase your understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

VACCA is a child and family services agency. We are not a provider of ‘childcare’ services (e.g. daycare or creche). Our programs and services are designed for Aboriginal children, young people, their families, and the broader Aboriginal community. We believe the social and emotional wellbeing of our children and young people is dependent on culturally strong, safe and thriving Aboriginal families and communities. Our role is to ensure that not only is each child nurtured and safe, but that everyone around them is culturally strong, supported and empowered.

We recommend that you write a resume before applying. A resume can be very basic and should include the following information:
- personal details (name, address, phone number and email address)
- education
- work experience
- skills
- references (you will need at least two references, though these can also be provided later).
There are many websites that can help you write a basic resume.
-
‘To VACCA’ or ‘To whom it may concern’ is fine. It’s possible that multiple people will see your application, so there’s no need to address it to one specific person.
-
Your career profile provides us with general information about your background and interests. When we consider your application toward a specific job, we need more detailed information that will help us assess your skills as they apply to the requirement of that job.
-
It varies. Depending on the role, interviews may be held by phone, online (via Microsoft Teams) or in person. If the interview is by phone or online, make sure you have a quiet space where you can have your interview. If this is difficult, please let us know so we can find a solution that works for you.
-
We try to make a final decision within a few business days once the successful candidate has been selected and we have completed the reference and safety checks. However, sometimes this is not always possible and it may take longer. Please reach out to your contact person at any time during the process.
-
Please ensure you are familiar with VACCA’s work, vision and purpose. You can find out this information on the VACCA website. If you want to understand more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, we recommend Deadly Story.
Before the interview, review the position description, in particular the key selection criteria. We recommend you practice responding to each of the criteria before the interview.
