Orana Gunya

Orana Gunya is a crisis accommodation and support service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children experiencing or escaping family violence. 

Who is it for? 

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experiencing or escaping family violence. 
• This service is also available to non-Aboriginal women caring for Aboriginal children. 

How it works 

Located in Morwell, Orana Gunya offers a safe refuge from violence with five one- to three-bedroom units. Our refuge has one main communal area complete with self-service kitchen, and a living area with arts, crafts and other wellbeing activities including facilitated women's groups. Our refuge is also wheelchair accessible.

• A MARAM Risk Assessment and safety plan is updated by a practitioner to identify what level of support is needed.
• We employ the latest state-of-the-art security systems to ensure our clients are safe from harm.
• Our refuge is staffed 24/7.
• Case management workers provide assistance and advocacy on-site Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.
  • Work within trauma-informed framework.
  • Culturally responsive practice.
  • Maintain connection between family and Community whilst staying at the refuge.
• Children’s workers are on-site Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.
• Please note, we DO NOT accept pets but can arrange for your pet to be housed.
